November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

During November, JDRF will celebrate a number of important annual events, including T1Day (November 1), World Diabetes Day (November 14), and the month-long National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM). Here are some ways that you can get involved!

NDAM Coloring Contest
Download this coloring sheet and design it to show what life without T1D would be like for you. Use your creativity to share your dream of a cure! The winner will receive a prize and be recognized at the Walk to Cure Diabetes on May 10, 2014 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. All entries must be received at the JDRF Office by November 30th. Please deliver or mail your coloring sheet to 3580 EP True Pkwy. Ste. 101, West Des Moines, IA 50265.

Share your T1Day
On November 1, JDRF will celebrate T1Day in recognition of all those living with type one diabetes. We invite you to post a picture on our Facebook page depicting what your day with T1D is like on Friday, November 1st. Be creative and have fun! If you are unable to post your picture, please email it to Tori Lemke at vlemke@jdrf.org and we will post it for you.

Get Ready for Walk
On World Diabetes Day, November 14, show your support for JDRF and for T1D by registering your Walk team. Visit walk.jdrf.org to get started. Once you’ve registered, post on our Facebook page to tell us why you Walk for T1D. Don’t forget to include your Walk team name!

Become an Advocate
Sign up as an Advocate to show your commitment to continuation of uninterrupted federal funding T1D research. By signing up, you will receive emails on different ways you can let Congress know how important treating, curing and preventing T1D is to you!

T1D for a Day Text Challenge
The JDRF T1D for a Day challenge is an eye-opening text campaign presented by Lilly Diabetes. Encourage your friends and family members to sign up today, or any day in November, and they will receive multiple text messages over 24 hours from professional snowboarder Sean Busby. The texts show what it’s like to manage the blood glucose testing, insulin injections, and dietary choices that T1D requires every day.

It’s easy to participate, simply text T1D4ADAY to 63566, and you’ll receive a confirmation text that completes your registration. Check here for more information.
