Volunteers are the key to our success…giving thousands of children hope…
Dedicated and Active Volunteers Are The Backbone of JDRF. JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes, a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Volunteers help define research priorities, select research grant recipients, lead advocacy efforts, and provide guidance to overall operations. At the Greater Iowa Chapter, we have a host of volunteer opportunities available throughout the state for many ages, abilities and time allowances.Below are several ongoing volunteer needs; if you are interested in any of these positions, please contact us at:

Become an Advocate –
Advocates receive legislative updates and action alerts via e-mail,and typically are asked to contact their members of Congress by e-mail, phone calls or personal visits two to four times a year. We provide you with background information, “talking points” and contact information for your elected officials. The power of these individual contacts, as quick and easy as they are, is enormous. Sign up to be a JDRF advocate today or email firstname.lastname@example.org
for more details.
Organize a Fundraiser- Hold a party for JDRF! Coordinate a restaurant opening, baseball game, race, motorcycle ride, garage sale or special shopping day – with the dollars raised benefiting JDRF and diabetes research. The only limit is your imagination!
Youth Ambassador- JDRF Youth Ambassadors are children with type 1 diabetes who are matched with Corporate Walk Teams, Ride to Cure Riders etc. to put a face on type 1 diabetes that is close to home and helps them to understand the everyday challenges of living with diabetes. A Youth Ambassador may be asked to participate Walk related events, display their picture on JDRF materials, serve as a spokesperson, inspire a Ride participant through letters and email, create special thank you messages, etc.
