Family Support

Finding out that your child has type 1 diabetes can be overwhelming. You receive so much information from your doctors, diabetes educators and dieticians, but then the time comes when you and your child go home and “do it alone.” But YOU ARE NOT ALONE. We are here to help, and invite you to take advantage of the opportunities available.

Family Support through the Greater Iowa Chapter

Family Network: All families living with type 1 diabetes are welcome to be a part of the Family Network. The Network was formed by families living with type 1 diabetes to help families with a newly diagnosed child or adolescent cope with this new way of living.

Mentors: We can put you in touch with someone who is willing to share their experiences with you and answer your questions.

Bag of Hope: We provide newly diagnosed families a comprehensive collection of educational and support materials for both parents and children.

Support Groups: We maintain an updated list of support groups for children, adults and families impacted by type 1 diabetes. We can also provide assistance in forming a new support group if none exist in your area.

We want to meet your needs. If you or someone you know has diabetes, please complete the JDRF Outreach Survey and return it to the JDRF office. This will help us plan events and activities that meet your needs.
